NASCAR DRIVER MATT KENSETH

NASCAR 2017 season might be winding down soon, and of course, there are many talented racers in this competition (especially the ongoing Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series 2017 Edition), but I wanted to take a second to spotlight Matt Kenseth.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Matt Kenseth is a stock car racing professionally. He races for the current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and currently drives the No. 20 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing.

A native of Wisconsin, Kenseth has had a glistening career in racing which has seen him finish 1st in 2003 and running over 643 races in his 20-year career. In his NASCAR career, his last win was in 2016 where he won the New Hampshire 301 (Loudon).

Kenseth, who is 45, is one of the most decorated racers in the NASCAR. His achievements to date include the 2003 Winston Cup Series, 2004 IROC, 2009 and 2012 Daytona 500, 2000 Coca-Cola 600, 2013 Bojangles Southern 500, the 2004 Sprint All-Star Race,  2015 Sprint Unlimited and the 2012 and 2014 Budweiser duel, all of which he was the winner.

As an addition, in the year 2000, he was given the award of the Winston Cup Series Rookie of the Year.

EARLY LIFE AND CAREER

Matt Kenseth was born in 1972 in Cambridge, Wisconsin. When he was young, he struck a bargain with his father, Roy Kenseth, that he (Roy) should purchase a racecar and race while he (Matt) worked on the car continuously till he was old enough to race. In 1988 when Kenseth became 16, he partook in his first stock car racing, and that took place at Madison International Speedway.

After purchasing his first car, Kenseth ran up to 15 features in 1983 and won just two of them and according to Roy Kenseth, “The first time I saw him win a race, I knew he was going to be a racer.”

Matt Kenseth had worked for four years after graduating from Cambridge High school,  selling and shipping spare parts for Left-hander Chassis, who was a racecar chassis manufacturing company located in Illinois, south of Wisconsin.

PERSONAL LIFE

The name ‘Kenseth’ dates down back to 1850’s when Matt’s ancestors arrived at Wisconsin. His father’s name is Roy, and his mother’s name is Nicola Sue Kenseth. In the year 2000, Matt got married to Katie Martin who is from Cambridge too. Kenseth’s son, Ross Kenseth, is the fruit of a previous relationship but Katie has three daughters with Matt; Kaylin Nicola (2009), Grace Katherine (2011) and Clara Mae (2014).

Kenseth’s son, Ross, raced with a “Legends Car” for a year at Wisconsin before he began a late model racing at the age of 14. Ross won the “Big 8” series in 2009 while he was just 16 and qualified for the second fastest for the “Snowball Derby” in December of the same year.
